Boba Fett: The Day I Photographed The Bounty Hunter

Han Solo pulled his blaster and fired upon Darth Vader, but it was futile. The Sith Lord muted his bold attack, claiming the smugglers blaster with a flick of the Force. The eerie silence of the bounty hunter behind the ambush, Boba Fett, emerging beside his dark employer.

Think back to when you were a kid. We all had that “thing” we were obsessed with. That mythical universe we were all willingly swallowed up into. Whether it be a TV cartoon, a book series, or perhaps a universe in a galaxy far far away. I am of course referring to my beloved childhood obsession of Star Wars. Even today, I love the Star Wars universe and it’s characters, it’s stories, and I admittedly get goosebumps when the opening title credits roll up the screen!

I recently attended “Star Wars Day” at The Ritz Cinema in Lincoln.

“The Ritz Cinema & Theater is a great independent venue. Growing in reputation for putting on unique cult cinematic offerings and fan interaction days.”

However it doesn’t stop there! The Ritz is also doing a fantastic job in luring some extremely decorated and legendary celebrities to Lincoln, to add some glitz to The Ritz! For Star Wars Day, they brought us the coolest Bounty Hunter in all the Galaxy. The man who led the Empire to Cloud City and captured Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back. The man behind Boba Fett. Legendary actor Jeremy Bulloch.

After some Q&A, Jeremy enthusiastically entertained the audience, and signed autographs and stood for photos with fans. It was a delight to hear his tales from the set of the films, and never grew weary to meet and greet the endless queues of admirers with a smile.

Real Life Imperial StormTroopers

Throughout the day the team of the UK Garrison provided all the ambience, strutting around in their fantastic Star Wars costumes and remaining “in character” throughout.

I loved how the Stormtroopers, under the command of a ruthless Imperial Officer, patrolled the waiting lines. Interrogating the fans, and even placing a few under arrest for defying the Empire!

Boba Fett was also scouting the goods. Perhaps seeing who might fetch a reasonable price to one of the slavers.

From a photographers point of view, people in costume and “in character” make such exciting photo subjects. You are presented with the unique opportunity to bring fictional characters to life in your imagery.

“The effort and level of detail that had gone into creating the UK Garrison Star Wars costumes was fantastic, and brought a sense of realism to the photos.”

I remember looking at the pictures and saying to my friend, “it’s like we’re on a movie set!” I would love to do a photoshoot with the UK Garrison team sometime!

From a Star Wars fan point of view, it was a great and surreal experience. Listening to Jeremy Bulloch recount moments of Boba Fett “on set” of Empire. Seeing a bunch of real life Stormtroopers out in broad daylight, harassing the locals was brilliant. If you ever get the chance to attend a live action fan event, be it Star Wars, Harry Potter, Power Rangers, Turtles… you must do it!

It’s not everyday you get to meet and photograph the baddest, most coolest Bounty Hunter in all the Galaxy, and a whole bunch of StormTroopers.

I did just that, and survived to tell the tale…
